URS

URS or ureteroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure where a small telescope or ureterscope is inserted into the ureter via the urethra to remove stones. The stones are broken down into smaller pieces using a laser. These fragments are then removed using the grasping devices. URS has a very high success rate of removing stones in the lower and upper ureter as well as the kidneys. Only about 15% of the cases may need additional intervention.

DJ stenting

A DJ or double ‘J’ stent is a small tube that is placed in the area between the kidney and urinary bladder to ensure that the ureter is open and free from blockages. The unique shape and structure of the DJ stent allows the ureter to retain its shape and urine to pass through. The stent is used to help the ureter dilate and prevent strictures or narrowing of the tube. A DJ stent is typically put in place after the treatment of kidney stones. Once the stones have been broken down, the stent is inserted to prevent any complications during the healing process. The stent also plays a role in the passage of kidney stone fragments.

Transuretharal Resection of Prostate (TURP)

TURP or transurethral resection of the prostate is a surgical procedure where enlarged, obstructing portion of the prostate is removed. It is performed to treat urinary issues that arise due to an enlarged prostate. The prostate is a small gland located in the pelvis and found only in men. It surrounds the urethra and is situated between the bladder and penis. When the prostate becomes enlarged, it exerts an increased amount of pressure on the urethra and bladder. This can affect the person’s urination and cause severe discomfort.

Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT)?

This surgical procedure is used in both the diagnosis and treatment of bladder cancer. Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) allows your surgeon to biopsy your tumor, or remove an entire small tumor from the inside of your bladder, while leaving the bladder intact. TURBT is essential to obtain a biopsy to confirm the cancer diagnosis and determine the stage and grade of your cancer.TURBT is used as a treatment for patients with early-stage bladder cancer, and is typically followed by intravesical therapy.

Stress Incontinence

Stress urinary incontinence is when urine leaks out with sudden pressure on the bladder and urethra , Causing the sphinter muscle to open briefly .With Mild stress incontinence , pressure may be from forceful activities , like, exercise, sneezing, laughing or coughing. If your stress incontinence is more severe ,you may also leak with less forceful activities like standing up, walking or bending over .Urinary accidents like a few drops of urine to enough to soak through your clothes.

Treatment for stress incontinence

Treatment for stress incontinence varies according to the underlying cause of your problem. Your doctor will help you come up with a treatment plan using a combination of medications and lifestyle adjustments.

Pelvic muscle training

For many women, pelvic muscle training can help treat stress incontinence. Kegel exercises make your sphincter and pelvic muscles stronger. To perform a Kegel, contract the muscles you use to stop a stream of urine. It can be helpful to practice doing Kegels while sitting on the toilet to help you learn which muscles to use. Once you have mastered the exercise, you can perform them anywhere and at any time.

Medication

There are currently no approved medications to treat stress incontinence. Both oral and topical estrogen supplements may help in women. Sometimes, pseudoephedrine is used with success.

Surgery

If you have a severe case of stress incontinence, to the point that it interferes with your everyday life, your doctor may recommend surgery. Several types of procedures are available and include vaginal repairs and other procedures to lift the bladder and urethra. These surgeries are being perfected on an ongoing basis and a qualified surgeon can explain your many options.

During the surgery, doctors will try to provide your urethra and bladder with more support. A sling procedure uses your own tissues to create a support structure for the urethra.

There are two main types of operations for incontinence: bladder neck suspension procedures and sling procedures. Within the medical community, the comparative effectiveness of these procedures is still being debated. If you are considering surgery, it is important that the decision be based on your individual circumstances.
